Are All Fruits and Vegetables Created Equal?

Date:
2012/10/25

Walking into any grocery store these days can be a very daunting experience when it comes to choosing healthy fruits and vegetables. There was a day when all fruits and vegetables were grown organic. Really, they were. However today, most fruits and vegetables that are affordable and readily available to the consumer have been treated with potentially unsafe herbicides and pesticides. The good news is there are some fruits and vegetable that are conventionally grown that are acceptable to be consumed, and the bad news is there are a few fruits and vegetables that are recommended to always be consumed organic.

According to the Environmental Working Group (http://www.ewg.org/) “Of the 50 different fruit and vegetable categories tested, the following "Clean 15" foods had the lowest pesticide load, and consequently are the safest conventionally grown crops to consume from the standpoint of pesticide contamination, and the following "Dirty Dozen" had the highest pesticide load, making them the most important to buy organic versions - or to grow them organically yourself.”
